Is Freedom Of The Press Necessary?

When people think of freedom, their focus is generally on the freedom of the press. This is because the press is telling us 24/7 that press-freedom is the fountainhead of freedom in society. The journalists happily campaign for all sorts of restrictions on almost every other business, but they themselves want to enjoy an absolute freedom of speech. They want to be free to propagandize any kind of views, right or wrong, rational or irrational, moral or immoral. The journalists want freedom for themselves and tyranny for everyone else. Their attitude is indefensible. I don’t see freedom of press as a necessary condition for freedom in society.
