The Importance of Empires
An empire is a multi-civilizational entity—it is formed by coercing several civilizations to come together, under the umbrella of a single political system. When civilizations are united under a single political system, there is a massive exchange of knowledge on science, technology, manufacturing, philosophy, politics, art, and literature. People from different civilizations interact with each other and they learn from each other. Strong business relationships get developed. Communication and transportation networks which span the globe get created. Without the empires of the past, various civilizations of the world would be existing in isolation—the knowledge developed by one civilization would not be easily accessible by other civilizations. By unifying the civilizations, the empires have played a critical role in expanding human knowledge.
